Morzine
About Morzine
Morzine in the Haute-Savoire departement of France, situated at 1000m above sea-level close to Mont Blanc. This traditional market town is dominated by attractive chalets spread across a river gorge, bordered by partially wooded slopes allowing skiing in poor weather conditions.
Morzine along with its higher alpine station Avoriaz are part of the Portes du Soleil which along with the Les Gets area in Switzerland forms the largest skiing area in the world.
The immediate terrain makes the area best suited for beginners and less-seasoned skiers and snowboarders, which has led to the resort being especially popular with families. However more challenging slopes can be found at Avoriaz via the Prodains lifts which are only five minutes away on the excellent local bus service. The off-piste 'trails' are both varied and adventurous, making the village a firm favourite with snowboarders, including various European national teams and pro-riders.
There is a wide variety of night-life in the town, making it ideal for apres-ski.
In the summer, Morzine with its beautiful alpine scenery along with mountain-biking, golf , walking and caving, and an olympic sized swimming pool attracts even more visitors than in winter.
